Brief Overview on Linux Gaming

We had a brief look at linux gaming, despite various rumours linux gaming is alive and well. Many top games are coming out with native linux ports, such games as Doom3, Neverwinter Nights (HOTU, SOTU), unreal tournament 2004 and soldier of fortune all have been ported to linux.

Here are some links below to some linux gaming sites:

1.) http://www.linuxgames.com
News about linux games (e.g patches, rumours and new releases)

2.) http://www.transgaming.com
Wine fork based around gaming, was once called WineX. Supports
a large amount of games, such as: GTA I/II/III/VC, Half Life,
Counter Strike, Day of Defeat, Warcraft III, Max Payne 2,
Battlefield 1942 (too many to list).

3.) http://liberatedgames.com
List of games that have been made "free/liberated" by their
companies, this includes such game titles as: Decent II,
Return to Castle Wolf (ET version), Warcraft II, Hexen 2,
    Duke Nukem 3D and more.

4.) http://curmudgeongamer.com/index.php?topic=linux
Articles about linux gaming (e.g new games)

5.) http://www.lokigames.com
Company that used to port a lot of games to Linux, closing their
doors but the shop is still open for awhile.

6.) http://www.vendetta-online.com
I talked about this MMORPG (massive/massively online role playing
game), headed by 4 open source developers this project gives EVE
a run for it's money for a MMORPG Space based game. Be a pirate,
government agent, trader, miner, mechanic (coming soon) or whatever
you want. This project is in a constant state of development,
changes are always taking place within the game (e.g new AI system,
    new ships/mods/systems, new gameplay (e.g mechanic/crafting)). They
plan to release the source code 'at some stage in the future' ;)

7.) http://www.linux-gamers.com
News, forums for help, guides/howto's and even merchandise.

That's all I can recall at this time, i'm sure if you google you can come up with a heap of sites about linux gaming, the main point i wanted to outline here is that linux gaming is not dead or non-existant. Many people find that games run better either natively (ported) under linux or even via WineX than under Windows XP/2000/whatever, I personally have noticed native linux ports work better under linux than their windows variants (e.g ut2004, NWN).
